Would you like to find and meet God? You can!
The problem is that God is holy, and we, as humans, are not. We have broken God’s laws of holiness. In other words, we have sinned against Him and His Holy Kingdom. As such, we are “tainted” and are banned outside of His Kingdom and outside of fellowship with Him.
The good news is that Jesus Christ, the only begotten, sinless, Son of God, died on the Cross for us. He took the wrath and judgment of God that is due to us because of our sins, and He took it upon Himself. He took our “death sentence penalty” and died in our place on the Cross. In return, Jesus extends to us forgiveness for our sins.
If we repent for our sins, ask for forgiveness from Jesus, acknowledging Him as the Son of God, and surrender our lives to Him, He will extend His atoning shed blood to cover us and take away our sin, whereby we will then be allowed into fellowship and relationship with the Holy God.
This spiritual transaction and transformation is very real and can be experienced and perceived, and you will know when you have passed from death to life.
The Bible clearly reveals the path that leads to this spiritual, but very real, transaction between man and God. The keys that unlock this mystery are (1) awareness of a conviction, or guilt, for our sins and (2) true, deeply heart-felt sorrow for those sins with a desire to turn from them, repentance. As the Scriptures reveal:
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (or, contrite in spirit; contrite means feeling or showing sorrow and remorse for sin or shortcoming). (Psalm 34:18)
In this Scripture, God has revealed and promised that if we will allow ourselves to become brokenhearted and crushed, or contrite, over our sins and separation from Him, then He will come near to us, and save us. What an amazing promise that God will come near to us!
God has also said, if “My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Here, again, God has clearly revealed the same requirements and shown the keys to meeting Him. If we humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways, then God will hear us in Heaven and forgive us our sins, come to us, and heal the divide between He and us, and heal our broken lives. We are given the keys to this mystery!
God’s Word also reveals another mystery, as it is written:
“For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
In this Scripture, God reveals that He is searching over the whole earth continually, looking keenly with the eyesight of an eagle from high above, seeking for a certain type of person. He is looking deep inside at the deepest core of who you really are, and who you would be willing to become.
Some of the attributes that He is looking for within you are:
- He is looking for a person who will be poor in spirit. That is, one who will admit that you are spiritually in need, and don’t know God–but you would like to.
- He is looking for one who will mourn and be grieved over the fact that you do not know Him.
- He is looking for one who would be gentle to others if He offered forgiveness to you in gentleness.
- He is looking for one who will hunger and thirst for righteousness (right standing with God; to be sinless). The question is, “How much value will you place on meeting and knowing God?” Will you desire to meet and know Him, and allow His Holy Spirit to come inside you, as strongly as you desire to eat and drink? Does it burn as an unquenchable hunger and thirst within you to know Him?
- If God were to extend His mercy to you, allowing you to meet and know Him, would you then be willing to extend mercy to others?
- Are you pure in heart? Are your motives pure in wanting to meet and know God? Are you tired of the lies, deception, and manipulating ways of our society and your life? Do you desire truth above all things? Will you live for truth; will you lay down your life to find Truth?
- If God would open this mysterious, spiritual transformation and transaction of forgiving your sins and bring you into peace with Himself, would you be willing to extend peace to others, and walk as a peacemaker?
If these attributes are desires that are deep within your heart, then God is looking for you to bring you into His glorious Kingdom. He wants to forgive your sins, transform you, bring you from death to life, raise you up, and give you a hope and a future with Him in His glorious Kingdom.
He has revealed that these are the things that He is looking for inside people’s hearts so that He can offer you entrance to His Kingdom, as Jesus spoke in the Scriptures:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
——- Matthew 5:3-9
If these attributes are in your heart, or, are what you truly desire to become, then God wants to invite you into His glorious Kingdom to live with Him forever.
He has revealed to us the Way. It is through confession of our sins, and repentance confessed to Jesus Christ, and a life surrendered to Him; making Jesus both your Savior and King.
I have provided a sample prayer below to assist in structuring your thoughts and putting them into prayer that can be prayed aloud to Jesus.
Feel free to add any words that you would like; make it your very own. If its words express the deepest desires of your heart, then just speak them out loud to Jesus. He is always watching, always listening. He is always attentive to the deepest cry from the human heart directed toward Him. He is compassionate, loving, and gracious.
A Sample Prayer of Repentance:
I Want to Know Jesus
Your Word says in the Bible, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Jesus, I am responding to Your Word and Your invitation and I am calling out to You now.
I am beginning to see that You are more than just a mere human man. I now see that You are the Son of God. Thank You so very much for dying for me on the Cross.
I am beginning to realize that I have not known You in the past, and have been far from you; forgive me for that. I have sinned against You and my fellow man. I confess my sins to You now which are __________ (fill in the blank with your own thoughts and confessions). For these sins, I am so very sorry; forgive me.
Convict me deeply, oh holy Jesus. Search my inner most heart and if there are any hidden dark places of sin within me, reveal them to me so that I might quickly repent and turn from them. Search every part of my inner-self with Your holy conviction.
I now turn from that past life and want to live in the future in a new way of life with You. Please forgive me for a life of rebellion against You and Your holy ways. I repent. Cleanse me completely with your holy blood that You shed for me on Calvary’s Cross.
Now, as I kneel before You on bended knees in submission to You, I surrender my entire life and self to You. I give You full authority over me and I receive You. Open my heart to You, and create in me a new heart. Open my eyes to You where I have been blind in the past.
Please come into my life and allow me to know You, and I will serve You with the rest of my life. Come and be my Master, my King, my Savior, and my God.
Come into my heart and live within me now. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I may grow in knowing You and serving You. Reveal Yourself to me and fill me with your Truth.
I receive Your Holy Spirit now.
Thank You, my Savior, my new King, and my God. Amen
A New Beginning
If you prayed that prayer and it expressed the truest, deepest desire of your heart, watch for your life to change; expect it. You may change suddenly and miraculously; or, it may be subtly and gradually. But, you will change. You will notice that you are changing, and your desires will begin to change.
If you see that you are beginning to change from the inside out, congratulations, you are now born-again, a new birth, a new person. You are a new creation, and growing. And you are headed out upon a new path.
Get a Bible. Get it in a translation that is easy for you to read and understand. Begin to read the Book of John in the New Testament (located in approximately the middle of your Bible). It was written by the Apostle John, who was the closest follower of Jesus during His earthly ministry. John’s insight, clarity, and his ability to express it in writing is, I think, one of the greatest pieces ever written through men.
